First Snow Of The Season! Be Careful Of Slick Roads Tonight!!

Today was a GREAT day if you're a snow lover in Indiana!!! We started out as rain showers then quickly changed over to all snow in the viewing area. I have many pictures and video to share with you all. But first lets take a look at how the weather is doing currently.

Above is a radar image taken at 8:00pm EST. You can see that most of that snow is now pushing off to our northwest and out of the viewing area. a few scattered light snow flurries are possible off and on tonight however no more accumulation expected! Otherwise we will look for partly cloudy skies as the night goes on.

We will have a cold cold low tonight in the 20s! which means roads are going to be dangerous tonight! All this snow and rain that made for a slushy mess on the roads will try to freeze overnight. So if you can stay home and off the roads then please do so! If you have to go out please allow extra time and take it S-L-O-W!!! Be safe is key!

Almost White Out In Lafayette!

Well, the rain has changed over to all snow much sooner then what was expected! We are now looking for double the amount of snowfall that was expected yesterday! You can see this picture taken in the Lafayette area looking south the almost white out conditions!!! Just amazing!! It is very dangerous and slick outside. Roads are in bad shape! Please take it slow or stay off the roads! Lafayette has 1" inch of snowfall on the ground, However 2.2" inches in the grassy areas! We could see 4" inches in areas especially up north before all is said and done!! I will have video and pictures up later on tonight.

Blustery Cold, With Minor Snow Accumulations Possible!

Cold, Blustery, Wet, and even Snowy! We have a lot of weather to deal with over the next day or two. Lets get started.

Above is a look at those cold temperatures moving into the area. This map is looking at 1:am Tuesday / early Wednesday morning. We will fall to a low Tuesday night of 22* degrees! With that cold polar air and rain snow mix, things will feel icy cold!

We are still tracking that low pressure system to our south that will continue to move north north west keeping us cold and wet! This system could even give way to some light snow accumulations in the area as we head into Tuesday evening / night. Check it out below.

As we go through the day tomorrow we will be tracking rain showers across the area, We could very well see some snow mixing in at times. Little to no accumulation will be expected during the daytime hours. As for rainfall we could see another .50" inches to .75" inches. As we head into the evening hours we will start to see more snow mix in before changing over to all snow later on that night (Tuesday Night).

Above is a surface chart looking into 7:pm Tuesday evening. You can see that rain changing over to snow. We will also see winds gusting as high as 30Mph. So things will be Blustery cold! Expect a high of only 41* degrees. However it will feel much colder with the icy winds and wet rain / snow mix!

As for the current thinking on snowfall, Take a look below.

Currently I'm looking for a wide area of .25" to maybe an Inch seen in the pink areas. With 0.50" or less just to the East of that pink area. The heavier amounts look to be to our northwest this time around. Currently looking for 1" maybe 2" inches in the white areas. Overall nothing to heavy this time around. However we still need to take it slow as this would be a very wet slushy snow!

Soggy Start To The Week! Blustery Winds Moves In!

That's right, I'm calling for a Hot Cocoa Advisory to be in effect from tonight through Early Wednesday morning, I'm forecasting Cold rain showers over the next couple days. Highs will be in the lower 40s with lows dipping into the middle 30s and even some 20s!! Not to forget wind gusts to 30 mph possible as we head into Tuesday! Brrrrrrr Is right! So do as posted and get that cocoa ready to go!

So whats the cause of this rain? Take a look.

Above is a look at the surface chart at 7:pm earlier this evening. You can see the rain over the state that has been effecting us over the past two days. This is because of that low pressure system to our south that will continue to track north north west over the next few days. Below is another surface chart looking into 7:pm Monday.

You can see we will be keeping those rain chances in the forecast as that pressure system move even more northwest.

Above we're looking into 7:am Tuesday. That low pressure system will be just off to our west tracking northwest. Rain chances will still be in the forecast. However as we head into the overnight hours of Tuesday into Wednesday we could start to see some of this rain mix with some snow as well. Any mixed precipitation would be after 10:pm Tuesday. However no snow accumulation expected this time around. Just a wet soggy mess.

You can see models showing some of that snow trying to mix into the rain as we head into late Tuesday night below.

Quick Cast.

Monday we will look for more mostly cloudy skies across the area with scattered rain showers as that low pressure continues to track near the area. Expect a high around 45* degrees with a low that night around 36* degrees. Winds will be between 10 and 15 mph with a few gusts to 20 mph possible.

Tuesday we will again look for mostly cloudy skies with some more scattered showers likely. Some of those rain showers could start to mix with some snow as we head into the overnight hours. No accumulation this time! Expect a high around 43* degrees and a low cold in the lower 20s! Around 23* degrees. Winds will be blustery between 10 and 20 mph gusting to 30 mph possible!

Rainfall between Monday - Tuesday between 0.50" inches and 1.25" inches possible.

Our average high for this time of year is suppose to be around 50* degrees. We will be running a good 5* to 7* degrees below our average high this week into next! We will also be below our average low as well. Our average low for this time of year is around 32* degrees. We will see a few nights fall into the middle 20s this week!

Dangerous November Storms!!

A line of storms rolled through the area earlier this afternoon just after 3:pm EST. Dangerous Lightning, Small and large hail, Along with High damaging winds across the area of 60 + mph!! And even a few funnel clouds.

Take a look at this wide range radar image below taken around 3:20pm EST.

This line of storms was moving East North East at around 65 mph. You can see all the tornado warning boxes in this image in pink! We did have a funnel cloud reported in the Lafayette, area near the Tippecanoe mall! Here is that report below.

AT 3:47 PM EST...TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A FUNNEL CLOUD NEAR THE TIPPECANOE MALL NEARLY TOUCHING THE GROUND.

The good news is there hasn't been any reports of a tornado ever touching down in or around the area as if now! Still as we all know, sometimes straight line winds can be just as bad! Here is a closer more local look at that hook on radar below.

Funnel cloud reported in Lafayette, Indiana near the Tippecanoe Mall.

Penny sized hail reported in West Lafayette.

Hail 1.75" Inches in size reported by an ambulance driver at the intersection of Jackson and Wabash in Frankfort.

60 Mph winds reported in West Lafayette.

60 Mph winds reported in Deacon, In Cass, county.

65 Mph winds reported in Terre Haute. Trees down do to wind!

As the storms started to move into Tippecanoe, county this afternoon I seen this huge Shelf cloud in the Lafayette, area. I took this picture at 3:26pm EST near Beck Lane and old 231. I've never felt so small lol. It was an amazing sight! People seeing a shelf cloud may believe they have seen a wall cloud. This is a likely mistake, since an approaching shelf cloud appears to form a wall made of cloud. However one way to help you tell is, A shelf cloud usually appears on the leading edge of a storm, and a wall cloud will usually be at the rear of the storm.

A sharp, strong gust front will cause the lowest part of the leading edge of a shelf cloud to be ragged and lined with rising fractus clouds.

In a severe case there will be vortices along the edge, with twisting masses of scud that may reach to the ground or be accompanied by rising dust. A very low shelf cloud accompanied by these signs is the best indicator that a potentially violent wind squall is approaching.

As you can see above, The cold front is continuing to move off to our east however its not going to cool us off to much come the overnight hours. Take a look below.

This is a look at our temperatures as of 6:00pm this evening. 40s are whats behind this cold front. And our low tonight is only expected to fall to 47* degrees with a high of 63* tomorrow. We will see cooler weather return however not until tomorrow night and then Wednesday with 40s as high and the low 30s as our lows!

Graupel, And Persimmons! A Great Winter Day!

That's right, today we seen our first flakes of the season! This form of snow you see in the above picture is actually called graupel. Graupel forms when snow in the atmosphere encounters supercooled water. In a process known as accretion, ice crystals form instantly on the outside of the snow and accumulate until the original snowflake is no longer visible or distinguishable.

The coating of these ice crystals on the outside of the snow is called a rime coating. Now I know this looks a lot like sleet or hail! So how can you tell the difference? To tell the difference between graupel and hail, you simply have to touch a graupel ball. Graupel pellets typically fall apart when touched or when they hit the ground. Hail is formed when layers of ice accumulate and are very hard as a result.

And if you don't feel like calling it "Graupel" no problem! lol its also more commonly known as snow pellets, soft hail, small hail, tapioca snow, rimed snow, and or ice balls. lol.

You can see in this wide range radar image above taken at 3:26pm earlier this afternoon that the snow was so light radar had a hard time picking it up! Take a look at this closer image below.

Here is the local radar image also taken at 3:26pm earlier this afternoon. Lots of wide spread scattered snow flurries across the area. Temperatures did peak at a high of 40* degrees however not long before falling back into the middle 30s! A cold winter like day indeed..

Quick Cast.....

Tonight we will continue to see partly cloudy / mostly clear skies which will allow us to cool off big time as the night goes on!!! I'm talking about lows tonight in the 20s! 26* degrees! So be sure to bundle up as you head out in the early morning hours.

Friday we will see partly cloudy skies across the area with a high around 50* degrees and a low that night around 37* degrees. Winds between 10 and 15 mph.

We will see highs around 60* degrees as we head into the weekend, however average weather returns by the start of next week with 50s back in the forecast. November is going to be our up and down month temperature - wise.

With that said, I have more info about the winter ahead. If you remember in my last post we talked about what the weather models expect this winter to be like. As well as what Nature's signs have to say about things. And the two disagree on the forecast. Well I have another big nature sign for this winter! Take a look.

That's right! Persimmons!! It is said that if you cut open the seeds of a persimmon and find a spoon shape then you're going to have a winter full of shoveling heavy wet snow!! With that said, I have a report from someone out of Parke county below.

"I cut 6 seeds open yesterday and they all had very defined spoons in them. I picked the persimmons in Parke County, Indiana. I live in Vermillion County which is less than 10 miles from my home".

Yes, its another point for nature! All her signs are pointing to a cold snowy winter! Which leaves me to ask you one question! (Which side do you believe?) Nature? or the Weather Models?. I'm going with nature! There are just to many signs to dismiss, I'll have my shovel handy! :)

What Could Nature Mean By The Words (Rough Winter)? Looking Into Indiana's 2011 - 2012 Winter Forecast.

It's been a little while bloggers, But I have managed to develop a look into the coming winter for you all. I have gone through a few weather models however this year I have done a lot of the forecast with almanacs and nature herself! So lets get to it so we can see how it plays out shall we?

For starters we will take a look into this very month, (November).

I have gone through data and it is seeming that we will be looking for the month of November to be more on the average / slightly above average side when it comes to the temperatures. With this La-nina jet stream pattern that's in place we will be looking at many temperature differences through out the winter, However I'll get more on that in just a bit. Take a look at this temperature map for the month of November below.

The below image is looking at the temperatures late November / December / January.

The average high for November is around 50* degrees. even as we end this week we could be seeing highs in the lower 60s again. Average low for November is around 32* degrees. So expect an average / slightly above average November.

Precipitation on the other hand is looking around average to slightly below average this month. See this chart out of the climate prediction center below.

As we look into December things will be again (Up and down) temperature - wise. We could very well see equal days of both above and below average highs and lows through out the month of December! It will be a tricky month. Take a look at the temperature outlook from the CPC below.

As for the precipitation during the month of December, I see us around average / slightly above average however December will not be our snowy month this year. I see our snowiest months to possibly be late January into February. Here's the three month precipitation outlook out of the CPC below. This is looking into Dec, Jan, and Feb...

Though December is not looking like our snowiest month this season, Nature is calling for December to be a windy one! We could see some bitter cold wind chills this winter!

So why could temperature changes be so crazy this season? Bitter cold temps soon followed by mild temps? Well, it all has to do with our weak La-nina jet stream pattern.

You can see in this image taken in October the slightly cooler waters. Colors in Blues and Purples. This is the weak La-nina. Here is a look at the differences in the jet stream patterns during a La-nina event and an El-nino event below.

You can see the El-nino jet stream in the yellow, and the La-nina jet stream in the purple. With La-nina we see many troughs and ridges in the jet stream. This is what will continue to warm and cool us this winter! Cooler temperatures as a trough moves through while more mild temperatures during the ridge.

Now I know I have a lot of snow lovers out there as well that probably aren't to happy with this winter outlook. And I do apologize! However even nature is having a tough time giving hints as to how this winter will play out! Here's a look at the weather folklore side of things!

They say that when spiders spin unusually large webs it can mean a rough winter!

Also during the month of September there were many squirrels gathering food frantically, leaving messes of shells everywhere! Which is also a sign of a rough winter ahead.

And to continue with natures signs of a rough winter! Its said that if the first week of August is unusually warm, then expect a rough winter ahead. So I went through some data of this past August and here's what I found.

The first week of august was running a good five to ten degrees above average! Could this mean a cold snowy winter? Or by the word "Rough" could it mean a mild November, Many temperature changes through out the season, Windy December, Overall a "Wet" winter, with around average snowfall for the season? Cause in my book that sounds pretty rough as well!

And last but not least, here is the look at the almanac's thoughts on this coming winter below.

You can see the almanac expecting us to be in that Average temperatures, Very white, Wet, category. Which I too feel we're in this category! However I feel it should look a bit more like this below!

With the Average Temperatures, and Very White, in the blue circle area.. And the Average Temperatures, and Wet, in the purple circle area. I think we'll have snows! However not like we seen last year!

Autumn Equinox Forecast.

The cooler weather has been a nice treat the past few days across Indiana. Highs only in the 70s! This pattern is going to continue as we head into tomorrow (Monday) and through out the rest of the week! Take a look at Monday's forecast below.

We're look for a high in the lower to middle 70s around 74* degrees with a low that night around 53* degrees. We will see a few scattered rain showers still in the area left over from the showers we've been seeing tonight. However as we head into the afternoon / early evening hours of Monday we will be looking for the skies to try and clear becoming partly cloudy to mostly clear across the area! Expect winds between 10 and 15 mph with a few gusts near 20 - 25 mph at times possible. New rainfall amounts for Monday are between .10" and .25" inches.

Tuesday will be slightly warmer with highs near 80* degrees. Expect a high around 79* degrees with a low Tuesday night around 57* degrees. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies across the area with light winds between 3 and 5 mph.

As for the first day of Autumn!!

Yes, Autumn Equinox, AKA the first official day of Autumn is this Friday September 23rd at 5:05am EDT. Above is the JIWB expected forecast to kick off Autumn. I look for partly cloudy skies across the area with a cooler high around 69* degrees and a low that night around 48* degrees. This is the perfect way to start a new season!

A Foggy Start Today, Much Cooler Weather Is Forecast This Week!

That's right, We have patchy fog chances this morning. So as many of you are heading to work and or School please take it slow and allow some extra time! Remember your fog driving safety tips and stay safe as always! With Dew points and air temperature both expected to be around 60* degrees, Fog is a real possibility!

Fog isn't the only thing we're talking abut today! Yes, temperatures!! When will more Autumn like weather return? I have your answer. Take a look at the high temperature outlook for the next five days below.

You can see today we're looking for the high temperature to be up in the lower 80s! 83* degrees for our high with partly cloudy skies and light winds between 5 and 10 mph. As we head through the week we will start to see the temperatures fall once again into the 70s and then the 60s as we head into Thursday! Real Autumn like weather is in the forecast for sure.

Why is this?

Well, as we head into Tuesday night / early Wednesday we will be tracking a cold front that will be pushing through the area allowing for that cooler northern air to dip down into the viewing area over the middle of the week! Take a look at this temperature map below.

This map is looking into Wednesday morning. We're looking at lows Tuesday night in the lower 50s, with lows Wednesday night in the 40s!

Here's another look at where that cold front is expected to be set up come Wednesday morning.

It's still 11 days til the official start of Autumn, (Autumn Equinox). September 23rd at 5:05am EDT. However nature has been saying otherwise lol. I gotta say, I've been enjoying the cooler weather, And as you all know I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE WINTER SNOW! lol :) Which I will be working on the 2011 - 2012 winter forecast very soon. I hope to have a post up by the first or second week of October! So you can look forward to that! ;)

Autumn Equinox Is Two Weeks Away!

Summer is just about over people! lol. We have less then 15 days left of Summer. Yes, Autumn is that close already! And it has felt like Autumn all week. I'm loving it! But the question is "How long will it last?". We've been running a good 10* to 11* degrees below our average high for this time of year. Our average high is to be around 80* degrees. And we have been looking at highs around 70* degrees the past few days. Take a look at the weekly temperatures I've put together below.

You can see I do expect us to warm up just a bit as we start off next week. However we won't be to far from our average high. Monday and Tuesday looking to be our warmest days of next week currently. We will soon cool back off into the 70s though as we head closer to Wednesday and the end of the week, So GREAT news for all my cool weather lovers out there!

Now on top of these cooler temperatures we also have some slight rain chances in the forecast. Not much! But rain is likely.

You can see we still have that low pressure system just to our east that is allowing for more light scattered rain chances in the forecast. This is why I cannot rule out around a 40% chance of a few hit and miss scattered showers in the area as we head into tomorrow. Otherwise we will look for mostly cloudy skies and cool temps in the middle 70s. Also a 20% chance of light scattered rain on Saturday.

And last but not least.....

Yes, Autumn Equinox 2011 is going to be September 23rd at 5:05am EDT! I'm soooo ready to get Autumn kicked off lol. The cooler weather, The changing trees, And fresh smells! Ahhhhhhh lol.

Details On How Long This Cool Weather Will Last Coming Soon!

Good morning bloggers! It is another beautiful autumn like day with a current temperatures in the Lafayette area of 61* degrees. We're only expecting a high this afternoon in the upper 60s / low 70s possible around 68* degrees. How long will this cooler weather last? I will have more details later on tonight, So be sure to check back.

Tracking the cooler temps!

You can see below that area of storms to our northeast along a cold front that we will be tracking over the next day and a half. This will bring some needed rain into the area along with some cooler temperatures!

So here's a quick break down on what we can expect. Starting later on tonight we will start to see some of the scattered rain / thundershowers move into the area, This will go on into Sunday. Right now I'm not seeing a real severe threat, Anything severe looks like it would stay to our northeast this time around. Also I look for rainfall between .25" - .50" inches however you can expect slightly higher amounts inside thunderstorms possible.

As for Sunday, I don't see it being a total wash out. Scattered showers / Thundershowers in the morning hours, however we should start to see things try and clear out by that early afternoon with more partly cloudy skies and much cooler temps in the middle 70s!

Tracking Rain And Cooler Temps!

Rain is back in the forecast bloggers, as you can see above! Nope, its not looking like much however rain is rain and we will take whatever we can get. We have had this terrible heat move back into the area over the past few days which is trying to make things unstable. So we will be tracking a few thunderstorms over the area by later on Saturday night into Sunday. But the question is, "Will they be bad?".

Well, by the looks of things right now we could see a stray strong storm enter the WLFI viewing area however I believe that most of the severe will stay just to our northeast. Still we will be watching things closely overtime. Take a look at our EHI map below.

You see all the bright blues in this image above. This is where we will see more unstable air for more strong storms to develop come later Saturday night into Sunday. You can also see inside that yellow circle is the area where I feel has the best chance for stronger storms near the viewing area. With it being that close we will be watching. Good news is I'm not seeing a big tornado threat with any of these severe thunderstorms to our northeast. Helicity values are rather low this time around which is a good thing! Right now if we seen any severe thunderstorms I would look for main threats to be Dangerous Lightning, as with any thunderstorm. Some small hail is possible. And a few gusty winds.

I will keep watch on this and try to keep you posted. Otherwise lets just get through today's terrible heat! And a high of 92* degrees tomorrow, Then the cool 70s return all week. We will start off Sunday with a nice cool high of only 78* degrees. And a low that night of 55* degrees! So now you have something to look forward to! lol. Take care!

Hottest 8 Day Heat Wave In 70 Years! Finally Rain Cools Us If Only For A Little While.

The Indianapolis area is experiencing the hottest 8 day Heat Wave since July 1941. The average temperature for the period from the 17th through the 24th will be near 86.5 degrees. The high temperature for this period will average near 96 degrees...the highest since July 1988. The low temperature will average a stifling 77.5 degrees...reminiscent of the Dust Bowl summer of 1936.

During this period, Indianapolis reached 100 degrees for the first time since August 1988. The string of 8 consecutive days of 90 degrees or higher will be the longest since the 14 day string during the summer of 2007.

High Temperature last occurrence at Indianapolis

100 degrees on July 21, 2011

102 degrees on August 16, 1988

103 degrees on July 15, 1988

104 degrees on July 14, 1954

106 degrees on July 14, 1936

The highest temperature recorded at the Indianapolis airport is 107 degrees on July 25, 1934.

Good news is we're finally seeing some much needed rain this afternoon.

I snapped this picture while out earlier. I have never been so pumped to see rain lol. And there is nothing better then driving through a deep rain puddle and watching the rain water splash over the truck! Yeah, I know that sounds a little immature lol, but I really do care! ;)

I do hope that everyone is enjoying this rain while it's here. We may not see more for a little while. Right now models show a slight chance for a light rain here and there at least once this week, However I don't feel it's a good enough chance to put it into the forecast just yet. As for the temperatures. Well, we have cooled off into the lower 70s as this rain is passing, however we will be back into the low 90s by tomorrow and through the rest of the week.

Here's Monday's outlook below.

Indianapolis Seen Its Hottest Day Since 1988!! Temperatures Reaching 100* Degrees All Across The State!

We had the hottest day of the year this afternoon bloggers. Indianapolis, had it's hottest day since August of 1988!! They hit a scorching high of 100* degrees this afternoon. Take a look at just a few of the highs from across the area below.

You can see Remington, coming in with a high of 101* degrees. This was just after 5:pm EDT which caused a heat index of 116* degrees! Next highest temperate comes from Indianapolis and the Lafayette, area with 100* degrees recorded. I recorded a high of 97* degrees at 2:43pm EDT which caused a heat index of 114* degrees.

And this heat will continue on as we head into the weekend!

Yes, we still have that excessive heat warning in effect for the whole state of Indiana and a big portion of the U.S. We will see this heat warning in effect until 8:pm EDT Saturday evening. Here are just a few things you can do to help beat the heat.

To avoid heat related health problems, it is recommended that you do the following:

•Drink plenty of cool water

•Avoid exposure outdoors

•Try to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening

•Wear loose-fitting, light colored clothing

•Never leave children or pets in parked cars, even with windows cracked open

•If you do not have air conditioning, go to a public location that is air-conditioned just for a few hours (this can help your body maintain appropriate temperatures)

So how long is this heat going to continue before we see even a slight break?? Well, here is a look at your weekend temperatures I put together below.

You can see that heading into the weekend the highs will still be very dangerous. Highs in the Middle to low 90s which means the heat index will still be in the dangerous level well over 100* degrees. (Heat index are shown in pink).

The good news is at this time the MOS models are showing me some 80s trying to return by the start of next week! It won't be a major cool down as we would still be between 2* - and 5* degrees above are average. However it is a welcomed start! So I will keep watching that for you all over the next few days. Dangerous Heat Takes Lives.

Today could be our hottest day we've seen this season! With temperatures in the UPPER 90s! And heat Index well over 112* degrees!

The heat continues. This will be the story on JIWB over the next week or so. This heat isn't giving up on the U.S that's for sure. Sadly I have learned that this searing heat wave in the central and southern United States has killed at least 22 people this week. Hospitals in Wichita treated 25 heat-related illnesses, according to the National Weather Service. In Des Moines, Iowa, 16 people have been hospitalized because of this week's high temperatures. Up to 1,500 cattle have died in South Dakota because of the heat wave. and people In Indianapolis, homeowners were being asked to stop watering their lawns through at least Sunday.

You can see the pattern we have been stuck in by looking at this map above and the map below. Above is the expected highs around the area today. You can see everyone in the upper 90s to 100* degrees today! With no relief in sight.

That's right. Above is the precipitation map. You can see nothing, No rain to speak of to help cool us. It's starting to look like a desert outside.

With at least 22 people confirmed dead do to this heat, It only continues to get even more scary the longer it goes on. Stay safe and cool bloggers. Keep in touch with friends and family during this heat. Drink lots of water, and stay inside as much as possible with the A/C.

The Heat Wave Continues As The Dog Days Of Summer Become To Hot For The Dogs!

Well, bloggers I know it's been a while since I've checked in last. I'm sorry for that! I have had so much more going on this summer then normal. So updates may not be as often as they use to. Still I will try to pop in at times. This week is a great time for me to pop in as we have a lot to talk about weather - wise. Or should I say HEAT - WISE! We have been stuck in this ring of fire pattern over the past week or so. And it's starting to take a toll on us. What is the ring of fire you ask?? Take a look.

This radar image above I took around a quarter after seven this evening. You can see the ring of fire we're stuck in. This large area of high pressure that keeps us dry, sunny, and hot!

This week we have been more then just hot! We have been burning up!! Take a look at the high I recorded in Lafayette today.

That's right. Our average high for this time of year is right around 87* - 86* degrees. We were a good 10* degrees above that! This isn't even counting the feels like temperature (Heat Index). Our heat index was anywhere between 117* degrees to 122* degrees today! This is dangerous weather to be out in.

Any temperature or heat index over 80* - 90* degrees can cause Fatigue possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity.

Any temperature or heat index over 90* - 105* degrees can cause Sunstroke, heat cramps and heat exhaustion possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity.

Any temperature or heat index over 105* - 130* degrees can cause Sunstroke, heat cramps or heat exhaustion likely, and heatstroke possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity. And this 105* to 130* degrees range is what we have been seeing and will continue seeing all week! Maybe even into next week! This is why everyone needs to take note of this heat and play it safe. Watch out for your older and younger neighbors, And make sure not to forget about your pets!!!!!

They call these the dog days of summer however it has been WAY to hot for the dogs!!! You can see this guy above has the right idea to keep cool during these hot summer times. I always say that when temperatures are in the upper 80s to please make sure that your pet always has fresh cold water and a shady place to stay. However when temperatures are hitting as high as they have been lately, a shady place isn't gonna cut it! If you can bring your pets in then DO! If it's to hot for you, then its to hot for your pets!

A bit of a wake up call to remind you that bad things can happen in this heat, Not only have hospitals had a big increase in patients coming in do to heat related illnesses, But there has been a confirmed report that at least one pig died over at the Tippecanoe, county 4H fair do to this dangerous heat!

Some good news is that this morning, the Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair received a big donation. Caterpillar Inc. and McAllister Machinery donated a large air conditioning unit to help keep people and animals cool inside the Coliseum. This helps however there are still a lot of animals in barns and such that have no A/C to keep cool. They still need to be watering down the animals as much as possible if they're going to keep them over there.

Over the next 8 to 14 days I still see us being well above our average high for this time of year! And the CPC agrees. Take a look.

That's right, We will be running at least a good 5* to 7* degrees above average. This is nuts! lol. Just when models start to show us cooling off back into the 80s as our highs, they change right back and the 90s return!

Take a look at the next five day high temperatures.

These 90s just won't give up! Even the ice cream trucks are melting as you can see above. That's not good lol. As for tomorrows high! Well, I look for more mostly sunny skies across the area with a high around 96* degrees. We will be looking at heat index up above 112* degrees again without a doubt! This is dangerously hot once again.

And last but not least I wanted to point out a few things I feel are necessary for you all to know!

HEAT DISORDER SYMPTOMS

Heat Exhaustion

Heavy sweating, weakness, skin cold, pale and clammy. Pulse thready. Normal temperature possible. Fainting and vomiting.

TREATMENT

Get victim out of sun. Lay down and loosen clothing. Apply cool wet cloths. Fan or move victim to air conditioned room. Sips of water. If nausea occurs, discontinue use. If vomiting continues, seek immediate medical attention

Heat Stroke (or sunstroke)

High body temperature (106°F, or higher). Hot dry skin. Rapid and strong pulse. Possible unconsciousness. Heat stroke is a severe medical emergency. Summon medical assistance or get the victim to a hospital immediately. Delay can be fatal.

TREATMENT

Move the victim to a cooler environment. Reduce body temperature with cold bath or sponging. Use extreme caution. Remove clothing, use fans and air conditioners. If temperature rises again, repeat process. Do not give fluids

Here are some basic heat safety tips to help keep you safe during this heat wave!

Increase your intake of non-alcoholic, non-carbonated, caffeine free beverages such as water and juice.

Wear clothing that is light in color and loose fitting.

Avoid the outdoors during extreme heat. Stay out of the sun.

Stay in an air-conditioned environment if possible. Shopping malls offer relief if your home is not air-conditioned.

Check on the elderly. They are especially susceptible to heat related illness.

Eliminate strenuous activity such as running, biking and lawn care work when it heats up.

Eat less food that increase metabolic activity/heat. Proteins are an example.

Increased metabolic heat increases water loss.

80s Return With Clearing Skies To Kick Off The Weekend!!

Yes, you can see above in this satellite image I took just after 5:30pm EDT this evening, the clouds will soon be moving away and the sun will move back into the area in time to kick off the weekend! Finally our fair weather friend Mr, High pressure will pay us a visit! It seems we have been tracking that low pressure system you see above forever! lol. But finally some sun is on the way.

Take a look at Saturday's forecast below.

This is a surface chart looking into Saturday morning around 8:am EDT. You can see that high pressure will try and move into the area clearing skies through out the day. Yes, I'm looking for partly cloudy skies across the area to start the weekend. We will see a few clouds move back in by Saturday night with rain back by Sunday however Saturday is looking great at this time! Not only with partly cloudy skies but also awesome temperatures!

Yes, the temperature forecast for tomorrow (Saturday) is all about how the 80s return! Can you believe that I recorded a high in the Lafayette, area today of only 67* degrees! WOW. That's a good 13* degrees below our average high for this time of year. I know the calender says it's officially Summer however it hasn't felt it since it's officially started lol. However that will soon change as I see possible 90s returning by the start of the work week. So hang in there warm weather lovers.

Weekend Quick Cast.....

Saturday we will look nice with partly cloudy skies across the area. Highs in the lower 80s around 82* degrees with a low back up into the 60s around 64* degrees. Winds light between 3 and 5 mph. We will see more clouds move back into the area later on that night however during the daytime hours things are looking great to start the weekend!

Sunday we will look for mostly cloudy skies with a chance for some more rain showers in the area. A few thunder rumbles / thundershowers are possible. Expect a high Sunday in the lower to middle 80s around 84* degrees, and a low that night in the 70s around 72* degrees. Winds between 10 and 15 mph with a few gusts near 20 mph possible at times.

River Update. Also Cooler And Cloudy Is Forecast Over The Next Few Days.

Well, first off lets go ahead and get everyone up to date on the rivers! You can see in the image above all the river details. We have had continued lowland flooding in much of the state over the last few days. Good news is I'm not seeing anymore heavy rainfall in the forecast for a little bit! Which means we will start to see some of the rivers go down overtime. So this means that much of the flooding in central Indiana should end by this weekend.

However flooding along portions of the Wabash river may extend into early July! So if you live by the rivers, this is something to take note of.

So again the good news is I'm not seeing anymore heavy heavy rainfall to move into the area over the next few days. Take a look at what tomorrow's surface chart looks like below.

That's right. Cooler and cloudy is the forecast at this time. As you can see I'm going to go ahead and keep a real slight chance of a stray small brief showers in the viewing area possible. However this is s slim chance! Otherwise mostly cloudy skies and highs in the 70s around 74* degrees. So why are we so much cooler for the rest of this week??

Above is a look at what today's surface chart looked like earlier this afternoon around 2:00pm EDT. You can see we have been watching a passing cold front move across the area. And it's bringing some cooler air with it from the northwest. Also the cloud cover over the next few days thanks to a strong low pressure system to our northwest will also help to block the sun and keep us with highs in the 70s.

You can see the low pressure I'm talking about in this satellite image above taken at 5:18pm EDT this evening. This is moving east keeping us cloudy over the next few days. A few brief breaks in the clouds from time to time possible however I'm not seeing 80s as we head into Friday.

80s will return by this weekend with possible 90s or at least near 90s by the start of next week. Here's your weather break down below.

Quick Cast.....

Thursday we will look for mostly cloudy skies across the area. I cannot totally rule out the slight chance of a brief stray shower somewhere in the WLFI viewing area. However overall we will see mostly cloudy skies. Expect a high around 74* degrees with a low that night around 56* degrees. Winds between 10 and 15 mph, Gusts to 18 - 20 mph possible.

Friday we will look for mostly cloudy skies to partly cloudy skies possible. Again a slight chance for a brief stray shower is possible. Expect another high in the 70s around 74* degrees with a low that night around 57* degrees. Winds light between 5 and 10 mph with a few gusts to 15 mph possible.

Kicking Off The First Day Of Summer With Highs In The Upper 80s / Low 90s Possible.

Well, it was a busy morning for sure with lots of thunderstorms rolling across the state. Loud thunder and frequent lightning along with heavy heavy rainfall was the story all across the area. We even had a few severe thunderstorm warnings issued in the viewing area. You can see one of them that was issued earlier this morning sometime around 9:am EDT. The main threat with these storms was the heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and hail! However the only hail report I received nearest to the area was out of Indianapolis with 1" inch sized hail.

The main things we seen in the Lafayette, area was the heavy rainfall and lowland flooding!

You can see above the smaller cells that packed a real punch when it came to rainfall. The darker reds indicate the heavier rain bands. I recorded 3.20" inches of rainfall after the storms passed the area here in Lafayette. A big 2.31" inches recorded in Lebanon.

Take a look at this video I took during the passing of that cell you see above in the Lafayette, area earlier this morning.

You can see what I'm talking about when I say lowland flooding. Flood warnings are still in effect do to lowland flooding in areas. Along with creeks flooding over and some rivers near flood stage after this event. This is something we will be watching overtime.

So now the question is, "Do we have more rain on the way?". Well, we have another chance for scattered hit and miss pop up showers / T-storms as we head into Tuesday.

This surface chart above is looking into 2:pm EDT Tuesday. You can see all the possible scattered pop up showers / T-storms in the area. So we will be watching things off and on through out the day tomorrow as well. Otherwise partly cloudy skies!

And last but not least! I know it has felt like summer for a while now however the first official day of Summer gets kicked off tomorrow!

Yes, summer begins tomorrow at 1:16pm EDT. And if we see more sun then clouds tomorrow we could be pushing the low 90s to start off the first day of summer. It will be close!

The first wave of thunderstorms you see to the right of this image is starting to pass through the area. Western parts of the viewing area are looking much better at this time! The second round is to the left of this image still in areas of ILL, This will try to move east and may clip some of the northern viewing area counties. Otherwise we will look okay for a while, Still the chance for a few more pop up scattered showers / T-Storms later on this evening...

Above you can see where that severe warned cell is inside the red box, This cell is moving southeast. Just take a look at the hail core inside this storm below.

This is the main reason for the severe thunderstorm being issued in this area! Main threats if your in or around this cell will be quarter sized hail, heavy rainfall, and dangerous lightning.

Above is a look at the latest radar image. Good news is currently none of these cells have severe thunderstorm warnings with them! However there are some embedded mesocyclones inside them, Which means that they have the potential to rotate however are not currently! The mesocyclones are showing up by the circle icon just southwest of Lafayette, Also some small hail is possible in the darker reds just southwest of the Lafayette area, Things will continue to be laoud and wet over the next hour or so for the Lafayette, area and over the next few hours the more west of Lafayette, you go.

So again currently nothing warned which is good news, If anything changes I will let you know!

90s Return!

Well, my grandma had a great birthday. She even went on a moped ride that evening lol. For those of you who don't know my grandma, She loves to ride her moped! lol. 65 and still as wild and fun as ever lol. That's that Hatke spunk lol :)

Well, bloggers the past few days we have seen that the forecast has been calling for scattered thunderstorms just about everyday this past week. However we have seen more partly cloudy skies then anything! So whats the deal?? Well, when the forecast says Chance of scattered pop up showers or thundershowers in the area, it's just that! A Chance!. Otherwise we have been looking for partly cloudy skies. This is the pattern that will continue into the next few days as well. Take a look below.

This chart above is looking at tomorrow morning (Monday at 8:am EDT). You can see we are looking for a chance of a few scattered hit and miss showers / thundershowers in the area. Some of the storms that pop up could become strong at times in parts of the WLFI viewing area. Because of this chance for some pop up strong storms somewhere in the WLFI viewing area, the national weather service has gone ahead and issued our area to be in that slight risk for severe.

You can see us in that yellow area above. Now again I want to point out that not necessarily everyone in the viewing area will see storms, or strong storms for that matter. We have around a 40% chance of scattered showers / T - storms in the area. Otherwise I look for partly cloudy skies.

This is much of the same story for Tuesday as well. A chance of scattered pop up showers / T - Storms in the area, Otherwise partly cloudy skies.

The big difference on Tuesday will be the temperatures! Yes, you can see that warm front moving through the area Monday night bringing the low 90s as high by Tuesday! (POOL WEATHER) ;)

Then I hope to start getting back on track with more frequent updates. Today is my Grandmas 65th birthday!! Yes, Maxing Hatke New, is 65 today!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOO :)

Happy birthday grandma! I have a cookout planed and an afternoon filled with family time.

Outlook Into The Weekend.

Hey bloggers. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, Things are starting to get busy with it being summer and all. So I thought I'd pop in with a quick look at your forecast over the next two days. Hows that sound?

Let's get right to it.

Quick Cast.....

Above is a look at the surface chart for tomorrow (Thursday). I'm keeping around a 30% chance of a few hit and miss scattered showers / thundershowers in the area. However this is a slight chance. Some areas of the viewing area could see showers while others may stay dry. Otherwise I look for partly cloudy skies across the area. Highs in the lower 80s with a low that night in the lower 60s. Winds between 10 and 15 mph.

As we head into Friday, You can see this surface chart above looking at Friday around 8:am EDT. More scattered shower / scattered thundershower chances in the area. Again only around a 30% chance. Otherwise expect partly cloudy skies. High in the middle 80s and a low that night in the lower 60s. Winds between 5 and 10 mph.

As for your extended outlook into Sunday.

Yes, we will be keeping the chance of showers / thundershowers in the forecast all the way through the weekend. But do remember that this is not an all day rain event on any of these days, So don't cancel any plans, Just remember to take an umbrella! ;) Also I see the 90s making a return by this wekend!

Pray For No Rain Til After The Game!!

Above is a look at what the surface chart should look like by 8:pm EDT tonight. You can see that warm front is bringing in the warmer air for tomorrow the start of the weekend. I'm talking about highs around 93* degrees. And once that cold front moves in from our northwest we could see a few pop up scattered thunderstorms in the area. Some of which may be severe!

Here is a look at the surface chart for 8:am EDT Saturday. The warm front is passing through and the cold front to the west isn't far away. As we head through out the day tomorrow we have around a 30% to 40% chance of a few scattered hit and miss pop up thunderstorms in the area. Once they pop up we will have to watch them as some could become severe.

The greatest chance for severe will most likely come later on that evening into the early night. You can see above this is a look at the surface chart by 8:pm EDT Saturday. As the cold front moves in more storms will start to pop.

I really hope we miss out on the pop up storms tomorrow as I have a Softball game scheduled for 5:pm that evening. I'm going ahead and telling you all this so that if you don't see me on the blog then you know why!

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 9:32pm EDT

We have a newly issued severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the WLFI viewing area until 9:32pm EDT. Remember in my last post we talked about how there could be a pop up thundershower in the area this afternoon / evening. Well this is what that watch is issued for. Take a look at the radar below. You can see some thundershowers starting to form along that cold front to our west.

We will watch this closely just in case any storms start to become severe. Currently none of these storms to our west are severe warned which is good news! However we are currently unstable enough to support a quick stray strong storm or two within the WLFI viewing area.

Above you can see we are looking at current Lifted Index between -6 and -7 which is rather unstable. Also below we have EHI values around 1 and 2 which would support thunderstorms as well.

So because of this we will continue to watch the data closely overtime along with the radars. If I see any changes I'll be sure to let you know. Also if things get stormy I will be on the Live Chat keeping you posted as well.

A Great Memorial Day Weekend, How Long Will The Heat Last? And What About The Sunny Skies!

That's right, Above is a look at today's satellite. You can see nothing but CLEAR SUNNY SKIES over the area through out the whole day! B-E-A-Utiful outside for sure. A little hot however that didn't stop me from a 2.5 mile run around armstrong pond. 91.4* degrees is what I have recorded as a high in the Lafayette, area. It was 90.7* while I was out on my run. You gotta have FFF, "Faith, Focus, Finish!" You can't let the weather stop you from your goals. :)

And it wasn't just a beautiful day this afternoon but also yesterday for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500! I recorded a high yesterday of 83.3* degrees and partly cloudy skies across the area. I enjoyed spending time with the family having a cookout while listening to the race on radio.

You can see that your's truly was on grill duty lol. The menu included: Ribs, Hamburgers, Hotdogs, and two kinds of Brats! Beer, and cheese.Yummmmm, And not to forget that Indy Car cake you can find in my older post. That was gone in a matter of a few hours.

We also had a bit of a ping pong competition going on in the garage after the cookout. My uncle and myself started things off with some speed pong. Needless to say we could both have used a bit of practice. lol. Ping pong isn't my sport. I'm a much better Short Stop! ;) It was even better sitting aside watching my sister and aunt go at it. Take a look at the focus on my aunts face.

I don't think they hit the ball onto the table once! lol. Everywhere else in the garage the ball was bouncing like crazy. So it was very entertaining, I'll give it that! ;)

So the next question is, "How long will these 90s last along with the sunny skies?". Well, I have your answer!

Above is a look at the surface chart for tomorrow morning (Tuesday) around 8:am EDT. Right now it's looking like a day of Mostly sunny skies to Partly cloudy skies across the area. However with that cold front you see off to our west we cannot rule out the slight chance of a few pop up scattered thundershowers within the area. Also we will see a backdoor cold front move through, However it's not gonna cool us any!

You can see in this surface chart above looking at 8:pm EDT that evening, The cold front that is to our west starts getting closer to the area bringing the better chance for a few more pop up scattered thundershowers in the area. This is around a 30% chance. Here's your Tuesday weather break down below.

Quick Cast.....

Tuesday we will look for mostly sunny skies to partly cloudy skies across the area. With a weak cold front moving in from the west we will have to keep in the slight chance of a few pop up hit and miss scattered thundershowers in the area. Expect a high once again in the low 90s around 92* degrees. With a low that night around 65* degrees. It will be breezy with winds between 20 and 25 mph. A few gusts could reach 28 mph possible.

Extended Outlook.

The cold front that will move through the area tomorrow (Tuesday) won't cool us off very much. We will drop to a high on both Wednesday and Thursday in the upper 80s however I see 90s back by this weekend!

So the heat is here for a little while! That means you have two options. #1) Get the sun screen out and use it well! Also enjoy the A/C.

Also during this heat please don't leave pets in cars! It get dangerously HOT this time of year. It could kill them in no time. Cars reach temperatures ((well over)) 100* degrees. Always keep fresh cool water for your pets as well as for yourself.

Your Race Day And Memorial Day Forecast.

I have your Race Day Forecast as well as your Memorial Day forecast all ahead on JIWB! So lets go ahead and get right to it.

Above is a look at your Sunday morning surface chart at around 8:00am EDT. You can see we will be tracking a warm front pushing through the area that will really warm things up, and FAST. I'm looking at highs pushing the low 90s tomorrow as the race gets underway. Here's a little greater detail on the Race Day forecast below.

You can see I'm looking for a high around 87* degrees maybe even the low 90s are possible! I do have a slight 20% chance of a quick brief showers in the morning hours however that is a slight chance and I do not expect it to last all day! I think we will see dry weather for the race and for any cookouts that may be going on in the area. It should turn out to be a nice day weather - wise and otherwise!

If you think Sunday looks hot above, then just wait til you see Mondays forecast! Yes, Memorial Day is looking even hotter.

That's right I'm calling for a high in the low 90s around 93* degrees. With lots of Mostly Sunny skies across the area. This will be perfect weather to honer all the fallen soldiers! Here's the final weather break down in your Quick Cast below.

Quick Cast.....

Sunday (Race Day) we will keep a slight 20% chance of a brief showers in the area during the morning hours however things should clear out nicely during the afternoon hours with partly cloudy skies and a high around 87* degrees. A low that night only dropping to 65* degrees. Winds between 10 and 15 mph gusting between 20 and 25 mph possible.

Monday (Memorial Day) We will look for a hot dry day. Lots of mostly sunny skies across the area with a high around 93* degrees. Expect a low that night around 69* degrees. Winds between 10 and 20 mph with a few gusts to 25 mph possible.

lol, I guess you could say that cake it kind of a specialty of mine! This whole thing is edible. The car is made out of rice crispy treat covered with icing then a layer of fondant. It is all have painted with edible marker. Google Danica Patrick's 2011 Indy car and you'll see it looks pretty close. Not spot on but pretty close.

As expected the national weather service did in fact issue that severe thunderstorm warning got southern Fountain and south East Montgomery county. This warning is in effect until 6:pm EDT and was issued because of possible quarter sized hail inside the storm!

The rest of the viewing area is looking WET but good. I'm gonna go get a few things done and then I'll be back here later on tonight with a look at your Race Day forecast!

Right now the only area I would expect to see a severe thunderstorm warning pop up in the WLFI viewing area would be in the Fountain, and Montgomery, county areas. And again this would be for possible large hail. You can see the warning box just west of Fountain, county in the map above. This is the warning I would expect to be extended to the viewing area if any!

The left of this image is the radar. Storms moving from West To East. The right of the image shows the possible hail inside these thunderstorms. As you can see it is very little if any! This would be pea sized or smaller! No severe thunderstorm warnings with these storms moving through the WLFI viewing area currently which is good news. I'll keep watching and keep you posted as needed if there are any changes!

Looking Up, But Watching Closely.

As expected the closer these storms are getting to home the more they start to weaken. As they move closer to our more stable air they start to lose the fuel needed and start dying. As usual I will be keeping a watch just in case. However things are looking up at this point!

If we do happen to see a stray strong storm make it into the viewing area I would still expect the main threat of it to be hail.

The radar image below showing the storms inside the yellow circle is starting to weaken a bit. Echo tops have started falling from 50,000ft to 40,000ft. And I'm no longer seeing ping pong ball sized hail. However it is still currently a severe thunderstorm so we will be watching it closely as it co0ntinues to move closer.

The next batch of possible severe storms I'm watching are just to the left of the above image still in the IL, area. Again the main threat with these storms are hail. The severe thunderstorm watch box you see in the left of this image was issued because radars show the chance of these storms producing possible ping pong ball sized hail in areas!

However the only type of storm reports I have recived out of these cells has been hail anywhere between 1.00" inch to 1.75" inches in size. So we will continue to watch as they move closer and I'll keep you all posted as needed.

The only severe thunderstorm warned cell in the WLFI viewing area is the one you see above.

Patchy Fog And High Rivers For Friday Morning!

Hey bloggers. First off I wanted to go ahead and point out that I did change the Live chat a bit. It is no longer a pop up page. This is because I had to switch to a different live chat server. One that was better for everyone. This way we will no longer have to worry about spaming on the live weather chats! I have had a bit of a spaming problem here on the blog lately so this should help out in the long run. I hope everyone is okay with it! Everyone can still feel free to come here and chat live about any weather event that is going on in your area. I will be on the live chats as needed during severe weather events. Now back to the weather. What your looking at in this map above is all the light blue colors! This is nothing but Flood warnings all across the area. And they're in effect for good reason. After all the rain we seen during the storms yesterday and the scattered showers / thundershowers we seen earlier this afternoon, we picked up well over three inches of rainfall!

You can click this image above to enlarge. Above is a look at where the Wabash river currently stands and where it is expected to crest by tomorrow morning. Currently the Wabash river is sitting at 17.9ft. It is expected to crest tomorrow morning at around 8:am EDT at a high 19.9ft. This will be a good 8.9ft above flood stage! If you live by the rivers or know anyone who does please take note of this and stay weather ready! Never drive through flooded roads. Remember the saying "Turn around don't drown".

The other thing we will be watching tomorrow morning other then the rivers will be the chance for some patchy fog in the area.

With temperatures and dew points being only a degree or two apart at this time Fog becomes a real possibility! So just allow a little extra time to get where you need to be as you head out in the morning. Better to be safe then sorry!

Otherwise tomorrow we will look for partly cloudy skies with cooler highs in the area as that cold front continues to push off to our east. I'm looking for a high tomorrow in the upper 60s / low 70s. Models are showing highs right around 69* degrees. Winds light between 3 and 5 mph.

Also for the warm weather lovers I'm looking for highs pushing the low 90s by as soon as Race Day! Yes, a hot hot Sunday is looking to be forecast. I will try to keep you posted on that as well.

You can see the storms are just finishing going through the Carroll, county area up around Delphi and then they will be out of the Viewing area! All that is left to our west is the thundershowers which currently have no warned cells! Great news!

However this makes flooding a threat as we head into the overnight. So if you live by the rivers you may want to take note of this over the next few days.

The next batch of showers / thunderstorms will be tomorrow.

You can see that off to our west in the yellow that will make its was east into the viewing area. However the good news is at this time I'm not looking for anything like what we just seen today and or tonight. So that's good news! Here's a look at the severe weather threat for tomorrow (Thursday) below.

That's right! All the severe weather is expected to be off to our east as this line continue to push off east. So great news for the WLFI viewing area! So thunderstorms tomorrow possible however not expecting severe thunderstorms!

Yes, we have seen some clearing skies in parts of the viewing area. I have been watching our temperatures in the Lafayette, area go from 63* degrees back up to 70* degrees in a matter of a few minutes! This is gonna keep the fuel going on this severe thunderstorm fire.

This round coming up tonight will be the main round to watch.

We are pulling a lot of warm air in from our south and cooler drier air from our north west. So this is a classic severe event. The good news is I have not received any tornado reports from this line since it has entered the IL, area. However we will be keeping our guard up! I still expect the main tornado event to be to our south and southwest however we will be keeping watch.

I still have LI values around -5 to -6 which is still pretty unstable.

Okay. After going through some more data here's how things look currently.

As you can see above our EHI values have started to improve! They're not as unstable as they were earlier this morning / afternoon. This is good news! Also we are starting to lose that daytime heating that helps to keep us unstable. Our temperature has started to fall from a high this afternoon in the 60s and 70s. To a current temp of 63* degrees.

At this time I'm still looking for the best chance of tornadoes to be to our south. Yes, inside the purple area you see in the image above. Now this does not mean we can't see one! It is still possible. However this is where I feel the best chance of tornadoes is currently going to be. So we will keep watch.

Also even though we are slowly trying to get a bit more stable. Some areas are not! Our Lifted Index (LI) is still very unstable at around -6. Anything from -4 and lower is very unstable! And that's why scattered pop up thunderstorms are likely this evening / tonight with a stray strong storm also possible.

So what we can do for now is just continue to watch the data and the radars closely. I will be here keeping everyone posted. You can do your part by letting other bloggers know whats going on near you by using the Live Chat on the top right of the blog!

Areas from Lafayette, north are looking okay at this time. Areas from Montgomery, county southwest and also east / northeast we're still watching for some severe thunderstorms to push out of the area.

The next thing to watch storm - wise will be from our west yet again! Take a look.

Areas in southern IL, and just west of there is seeing many tornado warnings issued with the storms in that area. Southern IL, also south of there and even southern IN, is where I expected the strongest storms to be when I talked about it in my post late last night.

And the storms just became severe issued in the viewing area! It was only a matter of time. Some scatttered pea sized hail is possible in some of these storms down around Montgomery county. Also we could see some more strong winds! of 50+ mph.

This is the next round of storms on the way for the viewing area. You can see some of the storms are severe. So we will be watching this closely! We can expect this round of storms within the hour or so!

Two new high wind reports just recived at 2:09pm EDT and 2:13:pm EDT from the WLFI viewing area. One from Fort Wayne, in Allen, county. And one from Lafayette, in Tippecanoe, county. Take a look.

Storms are moving toward Lafayette, and or Shadeland.

Still seeing strong straight line winds of 60+ mph with this storm. Not seeing any rotation at this time which is always good news. Still I will continue to watch this system closely as it continues to move closer.
