A Work FIlled Weekend With High's And Low's.....

WOW Everyone! This has been such a BUSY weekend for me it is not even funny!!!!! I have to say a BIG thank you to my good friend Heidi!! She came in on Sunday at just the right time and really helped me out BIG time! We have had many pool problems this year with the filter blowing sand into the pool! (This has happened many times in the past) Still this year we went ahead and took down the WHOLE pool and also the Deck! (They Where Both Bad) Which has been up for many years! To give you an idea it has been up all my life and I'm 16!! Well we took the whole thing down and that deck was at least 4ft to 5ft tall and I don't know how many feel long! (A LOT) lol. This thing was METAL! AKA (heavy) Me and my friend Heidi worked all day getting that thing down! Then yesterday we worked on pulling up wooden polls out of the ground that was two and a half feet deep! Five of them. Also been up all my life! If it was not for Heidi coming over at just the right time I would still be out there working! The good thing is we had fun as well. ;) A little work never hurt anyone as I always say! I think many people take what they have for granted and that is not something you should do!!!! (Never be afraid to roll up your selves) Some of the (happiest people) come home at the end of the day smelling to high heaven! and that is just fine! ;) Here below you can see where the pool was and what is left after a work filled weekend!We will have another pool up next year that is for sure! But for now my dog Dobby, is loving the extra room to run around!! However when the pool first came down there was a lot of mud!!! (I no need say anymore) :)

Now how about we take a quick look at your outlook???? Well, what we are going to talk about is temperatures and some scattered showers likely! What we are seeing is a strong low pressure system to our north over the Michigan area. This is what will bring not only the scattered showers but also the cooler temperatures much like what we seen yesterday as we only had a high in Lafayette, of around 82.2* degrees! Yes, this counter clockwise flow will bring down the cooler northern air keeping us in the 70s for the next few days! Yes, we will go from ABOVE average temperatures right down to BELOW average temperatures! (CRAZY) is the word! But in Indiana this is VERY believable! :) Take a look at this map I put together for you all below!You can see the low to our north that we are tracking this week. Now the thing with this rain chance is that (Chance) is the key word! Most of the models are showing a slight chance later on this evening or later into Wednesday. Not everyone will see rain however it is looking light and very scattered! So not looking like an all day continued rain! Just scattered / few and far between..... Otherwise today we will look partly cloudy for the most part! (Thank goodness) Cooler temperatures in the 70s today around 77* degrees possible. Tomorrow highs also in the 70s around 70* to 71* degrees possible! That is a good 15* degrees below our average for this time of year! Again I say CRAZY! :)

Now everyone I feel like I want to say a little something about this. Billy Mays I just found out Sunday night was found dead in his house. I have to say this shocked me a LOT! Billy Mays is a wonderful guy and an amazing pitch man. I watched his TV show "Pitch Men" all the time and you really start to feel as though you know him in a way! I always thought it would be great to meet him one day! He just has one of those happy go get them kind of attitude's and that is something good to have. With not only this but also Michel Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and the WONDERFUL Ed McMahon, this is just WAY to many good people in one month! And some of them where WAY to YOUNG!!!! 50s???? Wow. This really got to me and really made me think about a lot! You really don't notice how much you take for granted until its gone! And I for one will NOT let that happen with my family!!!! "NO WAY NO HOW" Life is really to short. And if we think about it, Every animal but Man, knows that the thing about life is to (ENJOY IT) So go out and Enjoy life to its fullest! Love a lot more and hate a lot less because life is to short.

The Cooling Of The Cold Front!! Could It Bring Storms??

OK bloggers here is the latest on what we have to expect for the rest of this evening into tonight!

We are tracking a cold front that will push through the area later on tonight into tomorrow / Sunday! This will cool us off some however it is also firing up some storms in areas of IL, as we can already see on the national views of the Doppler Radar's. This is the line that will make a move on the WLFI viewing area later on tonight! (HOWEVER) The good news is the latest model runs are showing this line weakening as it moves into our more stable atmosphere. Currently our Lifted index is around +8.0 which is GREAT!! And my latest models are not showing anything severe for tonight at this time! The SPC also agrees with my forecast as they have taken us out of the severe risk area for tonight! Still we have the chance at some scattered thundershowers possible later on late tonight sometime closer / after 2:00am early Sunday morning. Rainfall is currently expected to be anywhere between a Tenth inch to a Quarter inch possible. We will see winds try to pick up a slight bit more as the night goes on into early Sunday however they are only looking to be between 20 and 25 mph with a few gusts to 28 mph possible.

Over all at this time I think we miss out on the worst! However thundershowers cannot be ruled out just yet! So everyone enjoy your weekend! I will be here tonight watching things (Only to be safe) However things look good at this time! ;)

Watching The Weekend Weather! Thundershowers Sunday However Cooler Temperatures Make Up For It!!

Hey Bloggers! First off thank you all for the Happy 500 wishes! ;) This makes 501!! lol. Well, it is the weekend and we are loving it right???? Well, the good news is after today we will really start to notice some cooler weather move into the area! Yes, I think the heat wave may be over! Today we will look for highs around 89* degrees with mostly sunny skies. Lows look to be in the upper 60s around 68* degrees! However some more rain showers are going to be back in our forecast this weekend! Yes, We are looking for a line of showers to move into the area by early Sunday! We will look for rainfall between a quarter and a half inch possible. A few thundershowers cannot be ruled out at this time. And you all know I will keep you posted as needed! :]

For now I wanted to show you all this map below! This is showing our temperature outlook for the next 6 to 10 days! I think you will like this!
Take a look at that!! After being above average for the last week or so we will now fall slightly below average! At least this map thinks so! To let you know what our average is take a look. We usually average our highs around 85* degrees for this time of year! And lows around 62* to 63* degrees. I know yesterday evening I looked at Lafayette's temperature and it was at 80* degrees as the sun started to set. Those 80s felt sooooooo cool and nice I could not believe it! I think these 80s to come will be welcomed with open arms lol.

Lightning
On average, lightning kills more people per year than tornadoes. Strikes can occur many miles from the base of a thunderstorm, even without rain -- and even with the sun shining! Listening for approaching thunder is a good idea -- unless you are the target of the first flash. You can't dodge a lightning strike; and you will never see or hear the one which hits you.

Family at the Beach/Lake
You plan to go to the beach or lake later this morning with the kids. The weather forecast calls for a nice morning followed by a 30 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms. You decide to head for the beach in your minivan. The beach is about 5 minutes from the parking lot. Once arriving at the beach, you notice the only nearby buildings are open sided picnic shelters with no obvious substantial wiring or plumbing. By early afternoon you notice the skies darkening and hear distant thunder. What should you and the kids do?

In this case, go to your car. Do NOT seek shelter under the beach picnic shelters. Wait 30 minutes until after the last rumble of thunder going back to the beach.

Camping
As you and your spouse are preparing dinner on the camp stove, you here rumbles of thunder in the distance. You look around and you see your tent is nearby, and a large open sided picnic shelter with no obvious substantial wiring or plumbing is just down the trail. Your vehicle is about ¼ of a mile away parked at the trail head. What should you and your family do?

Round up your family and go to your vehicle. The tent and picnic shelter are NOT a safe places. It is best to remain in your vehicle for 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder is heard.

Motorcyclist/Bicyclist
People have been hit by lightning while riding motorcycles and bikes. Here are just a few examples:

Virginia Beach, VA: Motorcyclist killed while traveling on Route 58.
Colorado: a 16 year old boy killed while riding a bicycle.
Tennessee: a 47 year old man killed while leaning against his motorcycle.
Virginia: a man killed riding his motorcycle.

Protect Yourself when on a bicycle, motorcycle or dirt bike. Carry a portable Weather Radio or listen to commercial radio. If you see threatening skies in the distance and you are near a safe building, pull over and wait 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before resuming your ride.

So why are enclosed buildings with substantial wiring and plumbing safe to be in when lightning is occurring outside?
If lightning should directly strike a building with electricity or plumbing, the dangerous electrical current from the flash will typically travel through the wiring or plumbing, and then into the ground. This is why you should stay away from showers, sinks, hot tubs, and electronic equipment you are directly connected to such as corded telephones and computers.

Lightning can damage or destroy electronics so it's important to have a proper lightning protection system connected to your electronic equipment. The American Meteorological Society has tips for protecting your electronics from lightning.

Lightning Safety Is Something We ALL Need To Take NOTE OF!!

This Is My *****500th***** BLOG POST!!!!

Yes, that's right this is my 500th blog post to you all..... We are half way to a Thousand!!!! And we will get there in time! ;) I will tell you 500 post's have gone by FAST! lol. And I thank you all for making this a great friendly blog to come and get and give info! Your reports are amazing and really do help! That is what this blog is ALL ABOUT! Some Meteorologist think that they have to do everything on there own! However you bloggers and weather watchers are there Eye's and Ear's!!!! Without you all the forecast would be even more impossible then it is now! SO KEEP IT UP!!!! :)

Now let's get back to the weather! That is what you all came here for right?? ;]You can see above the developing cells that moved through the area last night! You see that cell just to the northeast of Lafayette. This was the cell that was just packed full of Lightning as it moved across the area. This cell went on through the Frankfort area as it continued to weekend which was great news! Nothing was severe with this cell however the lightning was very frequent and dangerous! (The NWS will not issue a severe thunderstorm for lightning) ((WHICH THEY SHOULD)) Would you believe there have been at least 15 people killed by lightning in the US to this Date Already!!!! And one was a ten year old boy in Indianapolis!!!! I really hope everyone remembered there Lightning safety tips last night!!!! This is the reason the NWS is doing the Lightning safety week. And this is why we will continue with it today!

What do I do if someone has been struck by lightning?
If a person is struck by lightning, call 911 and get medical care immediately. Cardiac arrest and irregularities, burns, and nerve damage are common in cases where people are struck by lightning. However, with proper treatment, including CPR if necessary, most victims survive a lightning strike, although they may be left with serious and lasting effects. You are in no danger when helping a lightning victim, and you may safely do so immediately. The charge will not affect you.

Here are some indoor safety tips I think will come in handy!!!! As last night we in the Lafayette area and other areas seen very frequent lightning. Even though your inside you still have a risk!! Take a look at these tips below.

Stay Safe While Inside
Phone use is the leading cause of indoor lightning injuries in the United States. Lightning can travel long distances in both phone and electrical wires, particularly in rural areas. Stay away from windows and doors as these can provide the path for a direct strike to enter a home. Do not lie on the concrete floor of a garage as it likely contains a wire mesh. In general, basements are a safe place to go during thunderstorms. However, there are some things to keep in mind. Avoid contact with concrete walls which may contain metal reinforcing bars. Avoid washers and dryers since they not only have contacts with the plumbing and electrical systems, but also contain an electrical path to the outside through the dryer vent.

Remember Your Pets
You may want to consider the safety of your family pets during thunderstorms. Dog houses are not lightning-safe. Dogs that are chained to trees or chained to wire runners can easily fall victim to a lightning strike.

Quick Cast Blog Cast..............................

Today we will look for some Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies with this hot heat wave still keeping our highs in the low 90s around 91* degrees. Lows still only falling into the low 70s around 70* degrees. Winds will be light not doing much to cool us off between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday we will see some more Sunny skies to start things with skies turning more Partly cloudy as we head into that evening / night. Later on late that night into Sunday Early we will see a cold front push through the area bringing some rain and possible thunderstorms along with it! rainfall looks between a quarter and a half inch possible. Highs will be in the low 90s and lows in the upper 60s. Winds will be light between 3 and 5 mph.

Sunday we may have some early left over light showers however overall we will become partly cloudy to mostly sunny with highs slightly cooler as that front pushes through the area dropping our highs to the middle 80s around 86* degrees possible. Lows will fall to the middle 60s! Finally we will get a break from all this Crazy hot weather!

Watching The Cells.

What we are seeing is these pop up cells across the area that are packed with dangerous lightning and some small hail is also still possible in areas! This cell is heading into Mulberry, Cambria, Cities of Frankfort, and also Manson. Currently there is nothing severe with this cell however Lightning is ALWAYS A SEVERE THREAT!! I think lightning is going to be a main threat with this cell.... Teri just reported some very frequent cloud to ground lightning on the south side of Lafayette looking Northeast!
