Starting Your Week Out On The Right Foot...

Hey bloggers. What's up with this weather?? lol We hit a warm high yesterday of 52.9 degrees almost 53 degrees. That's a good 10 to 12 degrees above average!! That's just crazy! What goes on when I'm not blogging on the weekends? LOL. Well, I'm back and I'm ready to restore the cool weather. Today we will look for highs to stay in the upper 20s to low 30s. And lows tonight drop into the teens. YES! :) It's only ten day til Christmas and it hasn't been feeling like it at all. But Nature is about to change all that and soon.

Today we will look for Partly cloudy skies over the WLFI viewing area. Highs will be cooler then what we have seen over the weekend with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s. Lows will fall into the teens tonight. Winds will be light between 10 and 15 mph.

Wednesday we will see more partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies to start things. Then as we head into the evening / that night we will see clouds start to move into the area. We will see highs in the low to middle 30s with lows in the low 20s. Winds will be light between 5 and 10 mph.

Now I know a lot of you might be thinking about that Christmas Travel forecast right? Well, you can bet I have been looking into it however I don't want to give out to much info and back myself into that darn corner that so many love to catch weathermen in lol. However I will say that currently the models are showing a possible system developing around Christmas Eve. Will it stay all snow for the WLFI viewing area is the question? It is to early to tell at this point! But I wanted to let you in on that little info. As we continue to get closer I will have more details on what we can expect come Christmas Day!

Also we will be looking for a nice cool down come the weekend. With more chances at some snow showers. We will be talking about all this and more on the blog through out this week. For now I have a little work I need to get done. So I will catch you back here again soon.

AURORA MASQUERADE: "Last night we drove to the country to watch the Geminids, and we saw a lot of them," reports M-P Markkanen of Kuusamo, Finland. "They were all over the sky, sometimes with multiple fireballs within just a few seconds."
"When I got back home I was treated to another kind of light show," he says. He photographed the display using a Nikon D80:It was an apparition of light pillars, caused by urban lights reflected from ice crystals in the air. "They danced in the icy sky like auroras as a few Geminids flew past in the background. All in all, it was a lovely spaceweather day!"

El-Nino Is Effecting Our Winter Temperatures And Precipitation. :(

Well, bloggers we have had an odd start to winter that's for sure! We have been well above average at times then way below the next time. Now we are around average only to become around two or three degrees above average once again to start the work week. But why is it so crazy this year? Well, I can say it all in one word. (El-Nino). Yes, that's right we have this darn El-Nino playing a big part in our weather pattern this winter once again. And this is what's effecting our temperatures and precipitation so much. You can see for yourself below in this image from NASA.

You see all that Red, to White, color to the south and west of the west coast? Well, this is the El-Nino Aka the warmer waters taking place. So the question is "How strong is our El-Nino this year?" well, we are looking at a moderate El-Nino. The next question is "How much can this effect our temperatures and winter precipitation?" Well, I have put together a few maps below to answer that question! Take a look.

This is how much winter precipitation we usually expect over a normal winter for the Indianapolis area. You can see we average around 6.4" inches of snowfall in December alone. And temperatures around 31.6 degrees. A total seasonal average of 21.8" inches of winter precipitation. Now take a look at our averages for this Moderate El-Nino winter we are looking at below.

I know it's a little small however stick with me lol. We usually lose 2.6" inches of winter precipitation in the month of December alone with a moderate El-Nino. And we take around 0.3" inches off of our total winter precipitation for the season. Also we add a good 3.1 degrees to our high in the month of December. And add a total of 0.3 degrees to our seasonal high. But for snow lovers the good news is we do add a little bit more snow to our average in the months of January and February. Not much but a little! ;)

Now I'm still watching our Christmas forecast and once we start to get closer I will be sure to let you all know every detail! Remember Christmas is less then two weeks away! How unbelievable is that? :) It is going way to fast. This is my favorite time of year so I love to enjoy every minute of it. And I'm going to be sure to do so!

Weekend Quick Cast.............................

Today we will start out with sun over the WLFI viewing area. We will watch for clouds to be on the rise as the day continues. We look dry for the daytime hours however as we head into tonight into Sunday we will see rain showers start to pop up on the radars. I look for this precipitation to move in after midnight or so. Highs will be in the upper 30s with lows dropping into the low to middle 20s tonight. Winds will be between 10 and 15 mph with a few gusts to 25 mph possible at times.

Sunday we will start out with some light scattered rain showers over the WLFI viewing area. Rainfall not much. Maybe between a tenth and a quarter inch. Highs will be in the upper 30s to low 40s with lows that night in the low 30s. Winds will be calm between 10 and 15 mph with a few light gusts to 20 mph possible.

Well, Bloggers I have some work I need to get done today. I have to head out to my Aunt and Uncle's to help them out for a while. So I had better get to work! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Quick Update Before The Weekend. Happy Friday!

Well, bloggers yesterday was the coldest day of the season so far that's for sure. And Brow, I'm pretty sure my nose was freezing ;) lol. Believe it or not we did hit a high of 21.2 degrees here in Lafayette, however we only stayed at that temperature for less then an hour! We averaged at around 17.8 degrees as our high. Wind chills however felt around 3 and -1 degree. Brrrrrrrrrrr And I loved every minute of it! This is my time of year. Maybe I need to move up north around Canada or something?!? lol :) Also all the wind made it look like we had a lot of snow Wednesday however I recorded around a trace to 0.02" inches. Now last Monday the 7th Lafayette recorded around 0.25" inches of snowfall. Here is a map below showing Tuesday's snowfall total and how much we have seen total this year.
Yes, that's right we have yet to break that inch mark at this time. Darn!!!! Come on Father Winter bring your snowfall this way! :)

Quick Cast.................................

Today we will see partly cloudy skies over the WLFI viewing area. We will look for highs in the low to middle 20s with lows falling into the teens once again tonight around 15 degrees. Winds will be between 15 and 20 mph. This will make our daytime high feel around 11 degrees. And our low tonight will feel around -2 degrees.

Saturday we will start the weekend with partly cloudy skies through out much of the day. However as we head into that evening / night we will see clouds on the increase along with some mix of snow and rain possible. We will look for highs in the middle to upper 30s and lows that night in the low 20s. Winds will be between 15 and 20 mph so they will make our low feel around 4 degrees. So Saturday night into Sunday will be the next small system we will track.

Now let's take a quick look at what we have in store for Thursday / Tomorrow. Right now I'm looking at Partly cloudy skies over the WLFI viewing area and lots of COLD COLD weather! I think we will keep highs in the middle teens and lows in the low teens. Wind chills in the subzero area. Here is a look at your wind chill outlook below.You can see the big difference in the real time temperature and the wind chill temperature. This is because we will still be seeing winds gusting in the morning near 30 mph then as the day continues we will see the winds slowly start to calm down to 20 and 25 mph.

Friday will be partly to mostly cloudy with winds between 10 and 20 mph gusting to 25 maybe 28 mph at times. Our high looks in the low to middle 20s. With wind chill it will feel around 8 degrees. The low will be in the middle teens. With wind chill it will feel around -4 degrees.

I don't see any more rain or snow for at least a little while. However you can bet I'm already looking into Christmas forecast in hopes for snow! As you know it is WAY to early to give a forecast however when it gets closer I will be sure to keep you all updated!! ;)

We have dropped to a current temperature of 21 degrees. And still falling! We have been seeing gusts today near 50 mph. Currently we are seeing sustained winds between 20 and 28 mph with gusts still hitting 40 to 43 mph. However we peaked today at 54 mph! Here are a few more peak gusts from around the area below.
