Get ready for another short indian summer!

Well bloggers we have yet another Indian summer approaching the area by as soon as tomorrow! I'm talking about highs back into the upper 50s and lower 60s as we reach Sunday. It will be a short Indian summer this time around. However I'm done with the warmer air. I'm ready for some snow! haha. Take a look at the highs and lows I'm expecting across the area as we head into Saturday and Sunday.

You can see I'm calling for a high near 60* degrees as we head into Saturday with a low that night only falling to 52* degrees. Very mild for this time of year. I mean, starting the first day of December off with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s??? That's just crazy talk if you ask me. As we look towards Sunday December 2nd we will again see highs around 63* degrees. With a low that night falling to only 52* degrees. Get out and enjoy it while you can warm weather lovers! cause it won't last for long.

As for tonight we will see a mile low of 42* degrees across the area. Partly cloudy to fair skies with winds calm between 10 and 15 mph.

TONIGHT- partly cloudy to fair skies across the area with a mild low of 42* degrees. winds light between 10 and 15 mph.

SATURDAY- expect a high around 57* degrees as a ridge of warmer air enters the area. Skies will be partly cloudy across the area through out the day, Increasing clouds as we head into Saturday evening / night. A few light scattered showers are possible after 1:am EST. Low Saturday around 52* degrees. winds may try to pick up through out the day as that passing warm front move in. Winds between 10 and 15 mph gusting between 20 and 25 mph. winds could peak between 30 and 35 mph during the overnight.

SUNDAY- we will see mostly cloudy skies / a few light scattered rain showers during the morning hours. The clouds will soon break up and give way to partly cloudy skies through out the rest of the day. A high Sunday around 63* degrees with a low that night around 52* degrees. winds will be between 20 and 25 mph. Few gusts to 30 mph are possible. Expected rainfall will be between .10" and .25" inches.

I do see the cooler weather returning by next weekend. Much cooler weather after the 10th of December. We will continue to watch this very closely. Have a great day bloggers and enjoy the 60s!

Another Ridge Of Warm Air.

After a COLD few days we are watching another ridge of warmer air developing. It will be here very soon! Find out when and just how long it'll last.

Snow Showers Lead To A Dusting In The Lafayette, IN Area. Paw Prints In The Snow!

We forecast a 10 to 15% chance of snow flurries across the area tonight and that's just what we saw. We had that light band of snow showers move across the area still trying to push to our east as we head into the overnight. Take a look at this radar image taken at 11:16pm EST tonight below.

That system we talked about in my last post coming up from the southeast is what gave way to our wintry system tonight. We have a light dusting of snow on cars and on the grassy areas. Any small puddles of water will freeze tonight so please be cautious while out driving. There could be a few slick spots around town. Take a look at the snow on this car below.

We picked up a good tenth inch of snow in the Lafayette, area this evening. Not much, but enough to grab our attention and remind us that winter is on the way! A reminder that snow is coming. I'm still watching the long range as some models are pointing to a developing system after the 10th of December. Its a ways off yet so don't get your hopes up, however anything is possible.

I was excited as always watching the snow fall outside the window at work this evening. I'm ready for that big snow! It gets me in the spirit of the holidays for sure.

Its going to be a cold night followed by another cold afternoon tomorrow. I'm forecasting lows tonight around 22* degrees with a high tomorrow only reaching 37* degrees. Because of this I again ask you to take it slow if you're out on the roads tonight and into tomorrow morning. Any water left standing will freeze making things slick and icy.

Snow for Indiana?

Well, we finally have some snow showing up on radar. However its nothing much. A few light scattered show flurries to the northwest of Lafayette, in areas up around Kankakee, and Watseka, IL. This most likely won't reach our area however I do still have some light flurries in the forecast for later tonight.

As for tonight, I'm looking for a cold low around 22* degrees. with partly to mostly cloudy skies across the area. As a system move up from our southwest we will have to keep around a 10% to 15% chance of a few scattered light snow flurries in the area. Otherwise we will be calm and mostly cloudy during the overnight. Here's a look at that system moving up below.

Looking ahead a bit, I have some models pointing to a possible developing system later on as we head into the 2nd week of December. Maybe even a snow system!?! This is something I will continue to watch and keep you posted on.

Snow Details For Indiana. Talking About Climate Prediction And The Farmers Almanac!

It is almost December and we have still yet to see any real snow in the area. Sure we had that trace of snow earlier in the month in the early morning hours, however no real accumulating snowfall. We keep going back and forth between cold temperatures and mild temperatures. Right now we are again stuck in the 30s and 40s however another ridge of warmer air is in the forecast for this weekend. This is the kind of weather that gets people sick, That quick temperature change so often. I'm ready for us to start leveling out temperature - wise. The NAO and AO models are showing us to be in a neutral phase as we head into December 10th before trying to go negative again after the 10th. We will continue to watch this. I'm trying to find snow somewhere in the forecast bloggers! Its just not showing up yet lol. Here's what the farmers almanac is forecasting below.

What do you think of this outlook? It is the farmers almanac, so its more of a rough draft of a forecast. However some choose to stick by it! Whats your take? The next 8 to 14 days the climate prediction center has us in above average temperatures. So they seem to think a mild start to December!?! This is another thing we will have to keep a watch on.

 

We do have another cold front making its way closer to the area. It will push through later on this evening / tonight into Monday. Lows tonight will fall into the middle 20s around 26* degrees.

Make sure to dress very warm if you gotta head outdoors this evening.

Remember how I said I was looking for some snow somewhere in the forecast? Well, I managed to find a few models that pointed to a real slight chance of a few light scattered snow flurries in the area by later Monday morning. Its only a 10% to 20% chance, but hey its something lol.

Most of us won't see anything out of this as its going to be really light. The farther south you go the better chance of seeing snow flurries you have. Still I cannot rule out a few in our area.

TONIGHT- we will see partly cloudy skies through out the area as a cold front starts to push through. A low tonight around 26* degrees. Winds light between 5 and 10 mph. Wind chill between 15* and 19* degrees.

 

MONDAY- we will start off the day cloudy with a real slight chance between 10% and 20% of a few light scattered snow flurries in the early morning hours. Otherwise becoming mostly to partly cloudy across the area. Winds light between 5 and 10 mph. High around 40* degrees with a low that night around 22* degrees. Nightly wind chill between 10* and 15* degrees.

 

TUESDAY- we will see a high around 37* degrees with partly cloudy to mostly clear skies across the area. Low around 23* degrees.

 

EXTENDED OUTLOOK- we will be watching for yet another ridge of warmer air to develop and move into the area by this weekend. Highs will be back in the 40s and 50s. Until then we will see highs in the 30s and 40s for the rest of the week with lows in the 20s and 30s.
