Day ((Two)) Of Winter Weather Preparedness Week. Winter Weather Travel Safety!

Well, bloggers I got some good news! Rain is back in the forecast for today! Yes, we will have around a 40% chance for a few scattered rain showers do to a low pressure system coming from our southwest moving to our northeast. This means our Eastern counties have the BEST chance for rain however most of the WLFI viewing area should pick up a little something from this system. Take a look at this map below.

You can see the Low pressure system and how the Eastern counties in the WLFI viewing area are the greatest chance for rain in this image above. Still it's not looking like a lot of rain however as I have said in many many other post here on JIWB "We will take every drop of rain we can get at this time".

Now here's a look at your forecast below before we start with day two of Winter Weather Preparedness Week! ;)

Today we will look for Mostly cloudy skies with a chance for some scattered rain showers across the WLFI viewing area do to a low pressure system moving in from our southwest. Rainfall is looking around a quarter inch or less at this time. Expect highs in the low 50s around 51* degrees. Lows in the low to middle 30s around 35* degrees. Winds light between 5 and 10 mph.

Wednesday things get a little trickier as the timing means everything on if we will see any rain or not. Expect to see partly to mostly cloudy skies through out much of the day. clouds will be on the increase as the day continues With a chance for some mixed precipitation of rain and snow that night into Thursday do to a clipper system from the northwest. Precipitation is expected to be less then a tenth inch. Highs in the middle 50s around 55* degrees. Lows in the upper 30s to low 40s around 40* degrees. Winds light between 10 and 15 mph.

HOW SHOULD YOU DRIVE WHEN SNOW OCCURS? WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF STRANDED BY A BLIZZARD OR ICE STORM? HERE ARE SOME TIPS.

WHEN WINTER STORM WARNINGS OR WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES ARE ISSUED CONSIDER CHANGING PLANS BEFORE YOU LEAVE. IF YOU TRAVEL...PROVIDE OTHERS YOUR PLANNED TRAVEL ROUTE AND ARRIVAL TIME.

THE INDIANA STATE POLICE RECOMMEND OBEYING ALL POSTED SIGNS. ADJUST VEHICLE SPEED ACCORDING TO WEATHER...ROAD AND TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. ALLOW PLENTY OF SPACE BETWEEN VEHICLES FOR EXTRA STOPPING DISTANCE.

THE INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REMINDS YOU TO ALLOW SNOW PLOW OPERATORS TO DO THEIR JOB. IF THEIR SALT IS HITTING YOUR VEHICLE YOU ARE FOLLOWING TOO CLOSE. AVOID PASSING SNOW PLOWS ON TWO LANE ROADS. ALSO KEEP IN MIND BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES OFTEN BECOME ICY FIRST. SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW CAN CAUSE SUDDEN RESTRICTIONS IN VISIBILITY. REMEMBER...ICE AND SNOW...KEEP IT SLOW.

STRANDED IN A SNOW OR ICE STORM? STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE...IT PROVIDES YOU DRY SHELTER AND PROTECTION FROM THE COLD AND WIND. YOU ARE ALSO MORE LIKELY TO BE FOUND WITH YOUR VEHICLE THAN IF YOU LEAVE IT TO SEEK SHELTER. WALKING EVEN A SHORT DISTANCE IN BLINDING SNOW MAY QUICKLY GET YOU LOST. DAMP CLOTHES AND BITTER WIND CHILLS QUICKLY LEAD TO FROSTBITE OR HYPOTHERMIA.

WHILE STRANDED...RUN THE MOTOR AND HEATER JUST ENOUGH TO WARM THE VEHICLE. KEEP THE EXHAUST PIPE SNOW-FREE AND A WINDOW OPEN SLIGHTLY TO PREVENT CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. MAKE YOUR VEHICLE MORE VISIBLE BY ATTACHING A BRIGHT COLORED CLOTH ON THE ANTENNA. AT NIGHT...TURN THE DOME LIGHT ON.
